PRS FOR MUSIC is the performing rights organisation which collects and pays royalties for the public performance of your songs.
MCPS collects and pays mechanical royalties for your songs.
PPL collects and pays royalties to sound recording copyright holders, and performers on recordings, for the broadcast or public playing of recorded works.
The US has a few performing rights organisations to choose from that collect and pay royalties for the public performance of your songs. Find out about them: ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and Global Music Rights. SESAC and GMR are by invitation only. Whereas ASCAP and BMI welcome any songwriter.
The MLC collects and pays mechanical royalties for your songs.
SoundExchange collects and pays digital performance royalties to sound recording copyright holders and the performers on recordings.
Most countries have their own PROs (performing rights organisations) and collection societies. You should find out about your ones and consider joining them. If you are writing, recording and releasing your own music then it is likely you will be due songwriter, sound recording, and performer royalties. These royalties are all in addition to the money you receive from your distributor, label, or publisher.
